Experience Details

Step away from the crowds of Asakusa and discover a quieter side of Japanese tea culture.

Just a short walk from Sensoji Temple and Hanayashiki, this one-hour experience invites you into a peaceful tatami room, where you'll slow down, grind matcha by hand, and learn from a tea master with more than 20 years of experience. Conducted in English, the session offers an authentic introduction to one of Japan's most treasured traditions.

Hidden inside Asakusa Hatsune Komachi, the cozy space feels worlds away from the busy streets outside. Cool in summer and warm in winter, the traditional tatami room is the perfect place to rest, relax, and immerse yourself in Japanese culture.

This is not a performance created for visitors. Led by an experienced tea master, the session explores the history of Japanese tea, the craftsmanship behind matcha, and the many varieties of tea enjoyed across Japan.

In a small group of up to 10 guests, you'll use a traditional stone mill to slowly grind tea leaves into vibrant matcha, a hands-on experience that few visitors have the chance to try.

As the fresh aroma of green tea fills the room, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the care and patience that go into every cup. The relaxed atmosphere also leaves plenty of time to chat with your host, ask questions, and hear stories about Japanese tea culture.

Before you leave, browse a carefully selected collection of premium tea leaves and original Japanese tea drinks that are difficult to find elsewhere, making thoughtful souvenirs or gifts to take home.

After this refreshing cultural experience, you'll be perfectly placed to continue exploring Asakusa, whether you're heading to nearby Sensoji Temple or wandering the lively streets of one of Tokyo's most historic neighborhoods.
